Apple Daily Report: Apple removing Do Not Track feature in Safari (and more news)

Since Steve and I can’t cover everything, at the end of each week day, we’ll offer this wrap-up of news items you should check out.

Apple will remove the Do Not Track feature of Safari in the next update of iOS and macOS. According to a post by the makes of the DuckDuckGo browser, Do Not Track’s goal to help users avoid having their activity tracked hasn’t been very successful, so Apple is shifting focus to a new Intelligent Tracking Prevention feature.

The audience for iPhone is continuing to grow in the U.S., though at a slower rate; the installed base for Apple’s smartphone reached 189 million units in the last quarter of 2018, an increase of 23 million on the same quarter in 2017., according to new data from CIRP — as obtained by AppleInsider.

According to Reston Now, the Apple Store in Reston Town Center (Virginia) has some changes coming. Apple has filed a building permit for the spot recently vacated by Pottery Barn, which is next door to the Apple Store at 11949 Market Street.

Apple has rolled out software updates for iOS and macOS to fix a privacy issue in its FaceTime video calling service, and says it will contribute toward the education of the Arizona teenager who discovered the problem.

Apple has posted an ad promoting Portrait Mode on the iPhone Xs/Xs Max/Xr on its YouTube channel.
