Apple Daily Report: App store apps stealing, sharing user info (and more news)

Since Steve and I can’t cover everything, at the end of each week day, we’ll offer this wrap-up of news items you should check out.

On his website Objective-See.com, in collaboration with a Twitter account, called @privacyis1st, security researcher Patrick Wardle says the Mac app, Adware Doctor, is stealing users’ browser histories. If that’s not bad enough, new research shared with 9to5Mac claims that more than two dozen iOS apps including weather and fitness trackers contain code that covertly shares user location and other information with data monetization firms.

Senator Mark Warner (Democrat) who’s the vice chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee, told Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg and Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey that he’s not convinced the tech industry can tackle election interference and bad behavior on their own.

In a note to clients — as noted by AppleInsider — Morgan Stanley Research analysts predict the upcoming “iPhone Xs” will offset threat of longer replacement cycles.

Along, the same lines, Goldman Sachs has raised  its Apple stock price target to $240 based on strength of the imminent “iPhone Xs.”

Apparently, Qualcomm made a big tactical error in the pre-trial run-up to its infringement court case with Apple — and now it’s trying to get out of it.
