Apple buys Texture, a digital magazine subscription service

Apple has scooped up Texture, a digital mag subscription app, reports TechCrunch. The terms haven’t been disclosed, but Apple is acquiring the full company, including employees.

Apple’s Eddy Cue confirms the in a statement to TechCrunch): “We’re excited Texture will join Apple, along with an impressive catalog of magazines from many of the world’s leading publishers. We are committed to quality journalism from trusted sources and allowing magazines to keep producing beautifully designed and engaging stories for users.” 

Texture, the “Netflix of magazines,” charges $9.99/month for access to 200 magazines. You can try it for seven days for free.

 Magazines offered include Entertainment Weekly, RollingStone, TIME, Reader’s Digest, Esquire, People, and Better Homes & Gardens.
