Apple Board of Director Chairman Arthur Levinson receives a 2020 Franklin Institute Award

Arthur Levinson, chairman of Apple’s Board of Directors, is a recipient of a 2020 Franklin Institute Award from the The Franklin Institute in Philadelphia.

Through its Awards Program, The Franklin Institute “seeks to provide public recognition and encouragement of excellence in science and technology.” The history of The Franklin Institute Awards Program dates back to 1824, when the Institute was founded by a group of leading Philadelphians to train artisans and mechanics in the fundamentals of science. 

Six Benjamin Franklin Medals for transformative advances and global breakthroughs in science and technology, and two Bower Awards—one for extraordinary business leadership, and another for achievement in science, which carries a $250,000 monetary prize will be awarded to ten remarkable individuals this spring

Levisnon received the 2020 Bower Award and Prize for Business Leadership. Here’s what The Franklin Institute has to say about him: “He launched Genentech to biotech greatness, and today, he continues to culture innovation at Apple through a powerful technology revolution as Chairman, and by leading Calico Life Sciences on a cutting-edge quest to extend human lives and develop new interventions for age-related diseases.”

Levinson, former CEO of biotech firm Genentech, first joined Apple’s board in 2000, and has served as co-lead director of Apple’s board since 2005. He has been on all three of the board’s committees: audit and finance, nominating and corporate governance, and compensation. Levinson was e chairman of the board in 2011.
