Apple notes on its Chinese language Newsroom site that it’s been awarded the Green Supply Chain CITI Outstanding Brand title in China.
Per the translated press release: “We always believe that to create the best products in the world, we must create the products that are most beneficial to the world. For this reason, we have been committed to promoting the development of smart and sustainable manufacturing,” says Ge Yue, managing director of Apple Greater China “I am very grateful to Director Ma Jun and IPE for their cooperation with us. We believe that through our joint efforts, we will be able to achieve greater achievements in protecting the Earth and its important resources.”
Developed by the non-governmental Beijing-based Institute of Public and Environmental Affairs (IPE) and the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), the rankings are the result of independent environmental management evaluations of brands across 16 industries.
CITI’s evaluation criteria include: “responsiveness and transparency, compliance and corrective action, extended green supply chain practices, energy conservation and emissions reduction, as well as performance disclosure.” The top 10 on the list are Apple, Dell, Levi’s, C&A, Nike, Primark, H&M, Samsung, Inditex, and Target.
CITI’s leading brands implement supply chain environmental management practices into their respective sourcing standards, the statement said. It adds that Apple is engaged in an ongoing partnership with IPE that aims to identify opportunities for advancement in environmental performance.
