Forget iPhone 15 rumors; let’s look ahead to 2024’s iPhone 16. As noted by MacRumors, a report from the Korean website, The Elec, backs up an earlier report by display analyst Ross Young that under-display Face ID technology will debut next year in the iPhone 16 Pro.
He says Apple is set to transition to under-screen Face ID on iPhone 16 Pro models in 2024, followed by under-screen Face ID and an under-screen front camera on iPhone 18 Pro models in 2026.
An iPhone with under-display Face ID has been rumored for some time. For example, his August 23, 2021 Power On newsletter, Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman said that Apple considered adding Touch ID to the iPhone 13, but those plans were delayed. Still, he said the ultimate goal is to add this feature to smartphones along with under-the-display Face ID.
