Analyst: no, the ‘iPhone 8’ won’t cost $1,200 (try $999)

In a note to clients — as reported by 9to5Mac — Barclay analyst Mark Moskowitz said that less one-in-five potential iPhone buyers will spend $1,000 or more on a new Apple smartphone. And the high end “iPhone 8” is predicted by some pundits to be priced as much as $1,200. No, wait. Never mind.

The “premium-priced” smartphone will be priced at “around $999,” according to the New York Times, quoting unnamed “people brief on the product.” The article does reaffirm other rumors, including an iPhone 8 (shown in a fanciful mock-up) with a bigger screen (thanks to a reduced bezel size), facial recognition for unlocking the smartphone, and the ability to charge it with magnetic induction.
