The 2021 iPhones won’t arrive until late summer or early fall, but, hey, let’s look ahead to Apple smartphones for 2022 and 2023. In a note to clients — as noted by MacRumors — usually-reliable analyst Ming Chi Kuo offers predictions about both years.
He says that next year’s iPhones will feature two 6.1-inch devices and two 6.7-inch devices, with no 5.4-inch iPhone. Two of the smartphones will reportedly be high-end models, while two will be lower-end models.
Kuo adds that Apple will introduce significant camera upgrades in the 2022 iPhones, adding a 48-megapixel camera in the high-end iPhone 14 models. He says the upgraded camera lens will take iPhone camera photography “to a new level.”
Looking ahead to 2023, the analyst says Apple will include an under-display Face ID system starting with its 2023 iPhones, removing the need to house the facial recognition system in a notch. There’s no mention of foldable smartphones in his prognostications.
As for this year’s iPhones, here are the things pundits say we can expect:
° The two high-end “Pro” models of the upcoming iPhone 13 lineup will sport a low temperature polycrystalline oxide (LTPO) display, enabling the Apple smartphones to have a 120Hz refresh rate and always-on display.
° All models will feature a smaller notch.
° They’ll have improved camera capabilities for astrophotography, stronger MagSafe magnets, and a finer matte finish on the back
° They could include a 1TB storage option for some models and LiDAR Scanners across the entire line-up.
° They’ll sport the the same wide-angle lens as the current iPhone 12 series, offering no tangible improvements to one of the three lenses on the upcoming smartphone.
