Analyst: iPhone 8 will be bundled with USB-C power adapter

In a note to clients — as noted by MacRumors — Barclays analyst Blayne Curtis says the upcoming “iPhone 8” (shown in a fanciful mock-up) will be bundled with a 10W power adapter with a USB-C connector and an integrated USB-C Power Delivery chip.

He said the USB-C Power Delivery chips built into both the Apple smartphone and 10W power adapter will be supplied by Cypress Semiconductor. The analyst thinks it’ll be the same CYPD2104 chip used in the new 10.5-inch iPad Pro.

Apple will probably include a Lightning to USB-C cable in the box if this happens instead of the traditional Lightning to USB cable, notes MacRumors. Apple could also opt to include a female USB-C to male USB-A adapter in the box.
