The iPhone 15 Pro Max, the most expensive model of the upcoming iPhone upgrades, will account for 35–40% of iPhone 15 series shipments, according to a Medium post by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.
He says that the iPhone 15 Pro Max shipments in the second half of the year will grow 10–20% compared to iPhone 14 Pro Max in the same period in 2022.
“It means Apple is optimistic about the selling point of the periscope [lens], which is only available in iPhone 15 Pro Max,” he writes. Looking ahead, Ming says, “Thanks to the iPhone 16 Pro’s adoption of periscope camera, it is estimated that the shipment of iPhone periscope lenses will increase by 70% year-over-year in the second half of 2024.”
Periscope lenses allow for greater optical zoom by bouncing light inside the phone off a mirror before passing it through another smaller lens which can be moved closer and further away from the sensor, amplifying the light even more.
Apple will unveil its iPhone 15 line-up on Tuesday, Sept. 12, via a pre-recorded event, Bloomberg‘s Mark Gurman predicts. Pre-orders will likely start on Friday, Sept. 15, with the first orders arriving on Friday, Sept. 22.
And, of course, the iPhone 16 Pro that Kuo mentions won’t roll out until the second half of 2024.
