Analyst: 2019 iPhones to adopt MPI antenna tech

In a note to clients — as noted by AppleInsider — analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says Apple’s 2019 iPhones will adopt MPI (modified polyimide) antenna technology instead of LCP (liquid crystal polymer).

LCP is a thermoplastic organic material that can be used as a low-cost dielectric material for high-volume large-area processing methods that provide very reliable high-performance circuits at low cost.

MPI is a compact, polyamide-based compact, thin, and flexible design with characteristics are perfectly suitable for integration into flexible displays for WLAN and Bluetooth connectivity. It should improve both costs and production yields — and perhaps lead to flexible iPhones.

Changes this is true, according to the Sellers Research Group (that’s me): 90%. Apple is certainly interested in anything that will lower costs while improving production yields.
