AirPod shipments expected to double this year

Sales of Apple’s AirPods are projected to double to 60 million in 2019, according to Bloomberg. The article adds that this has been driven in part by “much higher” than expected demand for the AirPods Pro model unveiled last month

The $249 AirPods Pro have surpassed expectations and demand for them is pushing Apple’s assembly partners against capacity and technical constraints, Bloomber says, quoting an unnamed “person familiar with the matter.”

Several suppliers are allegedly competing to manufacture the Pros. There’s now a wait time of two to three weeks for the AirPods Pro on Apple’s U.S. website.
