In a note to clients — as noted by MacRumors — analyst Ming-Chi Kuo says that Apple will release two new MacBook Pro models with an HDMI port and SD Card reader in the second half of the year.
“We predict that Apple’s two new MacBook Pro models in 2H21 will have several significant design and specification changes,” wrote Kuo. “Some of the practical changes for users are equipping with the SD card reader and HDMI port.”
Regarding upcoming Mac laptops, DigiTimes says that MacBooks and iPad Pros with mini-LED displays will launch in the first or second quarter of the year.
The Sellers Research Group (that’s me) thinks that the mini-LED and SD card addition rumors are true. However, I’m less certain that Apple will add an HDMI port.
Pro photographers have lamented the lack of an SD card, and they compose a big segment of Apple’s pro user base. And mini-LEDs sport a local dimming function with a contrast effect similar to that of OLED displays, but at a lower cost.
