7-23 news round-up: Americans with Disabilities Act, iPhone Photo Awards, more

Since Steve and I can’t cover everything, we’ll frequently offer a wrap-up of news items you should check out. First up: Apple has posted an article on its News site in which “Apple, creatives, and disability rights activists reflect on 30 years of the Americans with Disabilities Act.”

° The winners of the 13th annual iPhone Photography Awards have been announced. There were submissions from photographers around the world.

° After human rights violations by supplier O-Film Technology were alleged earlier in 2020, Apple launched an investigation and has now said that it has found no evidence of wrongdoing, notes AppleInsider.

° Apple has released the third developer betas of macOS Big Sur iOS 14, iPadOS 14, tvOS 14, and watchOS 7. Registered developers can download the betas via Apple’s developer portal. Or they can be downloaded over-the-air once the proper configuration profile has been installed from the Developer Center.

° Ahead of Apple’s July 30 earnings report, investment bank Morgan Stanley believes the company’s June quarter earnings will widely beat Wall Street expectations.

° Japanese site Mac Otakara says the “iPhone 12” lineup will be announced in the “latter half of October,” but the some models might not be available until November.

° Apple has finished construction on its second retail store located in Bangkok, Thailand. Located in front of the Central World Mall, it will open to the public on Saturday, July 25.

° In the new MacVoices Live, Brittany Smith gives us a look at the macOS, iOS, and iPadOS interfaces from the perspective of a cognitive neuroscientist. The first part of our conversation delves into what our choices about preferred interface elements and how we organize our workspaces says about us, using host Chuck Joiner as an example.
