TIZAG Digital Canvas iPhone Case offers something different — but lacks MagSafe support

TIZAG Digital Canvas iPhone Case offers something different — but lacks MagSafe support.

I’ve often said that, with the dozens of iPhone cases I get to review, very few offer something truly different. However, the US$59.99 TIZAG iPhone Case with Digital Canvas does just that, though it lacks a feature most iPhone users will miss.

The case offers decent protection, but the real selling point is that it’s customizable and fun to use. On the back of the case is a 3.7-inch display that will allow you to show a picture from your Photos app.

You can share images you make for the Digital Canvas with other folks, and they can share their images with you. With NFC you can change the image on the back of your case with a simple tap.

To place images on the back of the Digital Canvas case, you’ll have to download the TIZAG from the Apple App Store and set up an account with TIZAG. This allows you to save an unlimited number of projects so you can create multiple design and revise ‘em at any time.

The TIZAN digital canvas supports a four-color display composition (black, white, red, and yellow). For the best results, choose images and designs that align with the black, white, read, and yellow color range.

From the TIZAN app home page, you can view a curated collection of designs. You can download them or create your own. After finalizing your design, hit the Next button in the app.

Examine your design. If it looks good, tap the TIZAG button to start a transfer process. The NFC transfer process takes about 10 seconds. During this time, the digital canvas will flash repeatedly. Once complete, your custom design will be displayed on the digital canvas. But be aware of that the app only works with TIZAN cases.

In addition to offering reasonable protection for your iPhone, the Digital Canvas case features metal buttons for tactile use, soft edging to protect without scratching and precise ports with extra corner protection for enhanced durability.

The Digital Canvas doesn’t use any of your iPhone’s battery and doesn’t have to be charged. Putting the case on and taking it off is easy.

So what’s the missing feature? The Digital Canvas case doesn’t support MagSafe — due to, I suspect, the digital canvas plate on the back of the case. MagSafe is a magnetic technology from Apple that allows iPhones to wirelessly charge and attach accessories.

However, I connect my iPhone to one of several MagSafe compatible chargers, so, as fun as the TIZAN case is, it’s not for me. If you don’t use MagSafe accessories, the Digital Canvas is a fun, sturdy case.
